What We Are Reading

Where the Crawdads Sing

Kya Clark has been living on her own in the swamp since she was a little girl. But when two young boys from town take an interest in her, she thinks she has a chance at a normal life until one of the boys turns up dead. Hailed by The New York Times Book Review as a “painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative, and celebration of nature.” The barefoot “Marsh Girl” has grown into a beautiful wild young woman who has learned life lessons from nature. But as she grows up, she longs to be loved. But the townspeople are not as accepting of outsiders, and she is suspected of the murder. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and especially enjoyed the surprise ending. I can not wait to see the movie.
