Washington, DC

My son was living and working in the Washington, DC, area. We planned to visit him and decided to make it into a vacation. The first place we visited was to take a tour of the United States Capitol. Next, we took the tunnel from the Capitol to the Library of Congress.

No visit to Washington DC is complete without a visit to the White House, so that was our next tour. It was a beautiful experience. To take this tour, you must apply through your state representative.

We spent the rest of the day wandering around, viewing the statues in Lafayette Square, Washington Monument, and the Smithsonian Institution Castle.

We also visited the National Gallery of Art and the National Museum of American History. All these places are free to visit.

We spent the next day touring the Memorials using a tour group. Our first stop was the World War II Memorial. While most Memorials are free, we enjoyed hearing the history of each from our tour guide and avoided dealing with traffic and parking.

Next was the Korean War Memorial.

Followed by the Lincoln Memorial with a great view of the Washington Monument across the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

We continued to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Next was the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Martin Luther Jr. Memorial.

We finished our trip with a Potamic River Boat Tour and a tour of The Pentagon.

These are just a few of the beautiful sites that are available in Washington, DC. We will definitely be planning another trip someday.
