Voodoo Doughnuts -Orlando, Florida

If you are at Universal City Walk at Universal Resort in Orlando, Florida, stop for a sweet treat in a quirky environment. Voodoo Doughnuts started as a one-shop location in the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood of Portland, and now it is a multi-state chain with stores in California, Colorado, Florida, Washington, and Texas. The company’s logo, which you will find on the outside of the building, is quite interesting and fun to look at. It features a version of Baron Samedi Voodoo Loa of the Dead. Baron Samedi is one of the lwa of Haitian Vodou. Haitian Vodou is an African diasporic religion that developed in Haiti between the 16th and 19th centuries. It arose through a process of syncretism between several traditional religions of West and Central Africa and Roman Catholicism. There is no central authority in control of the religion, and much diversity exists among practitioners, who are known as Vodouists, Vodouisants, or Serviteurs.

Adding to the ambiance of the shop are the beautiful colors and very well-dressed skeletons that you will find just above your head. This place is extremely popular, so you may have to wait in line for about an hour. If you want to play it smart and go online to the Universal APP, you can order through the app and pick up your treats just outside the store at the kiosk. They have all kinds of amazing flavors to choose from, or you can just be plain and order the basics. You can see that our crew does have a simple taste in doughnuts.
