Smoky Mountains National Park

I had not been to Gatlinburg, TN, for many years, so my husband and I decided to take another trip there. We started our trip to the Smoky Mountains National Park by staying the first night in Pigeon Forge, TN, to go to the Titanic Museum. I found this attraction fun and informative.

The following day we drove to Gatlinburg, TN. We stayed downtown so we could walk to the numerous restaurants, souvenir shops, and activities.

The first activity we did in Gatlinburg was to take Ober Gatlinburg an areal tramway up to Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement Park, which has rides, outdoor activities, shopping, and dining plus skiing, snowboarding, and tubing in the winter. The view is terrific.

Since we always like to incorporate a hike into our trip, we stopped at the Appalachian Trail and Indian Gap in the Smokey Mountains National Park. We hiked about 2 miles in and then back.

We then drove to Clingman’s Dome. The trek up to the dome is a little challenging but worth it. There are a lot of places to rest along the trail.

Another activity we did was drive through the Gatlinburg Bypass and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. It is a one-way 6-mile drive that twists and turns through the Great Smokey Mountains.

Our other activities include the Gatlinburg Space Needle and Gatlinburg Skylift Park.
