Ox Kitchen – Fairhope, Alabama

Marty and I stopped by the other day to a colorful, happy, and friendly atmosphere. We looked over the menu, which offered simple but interesting food.  But as the owner stated on his website, “simple doesn’t mean boring.” Made with the freshest ingredients, The Ox Kitchen serves food that is made in-house daily, from the smoked turkey and pecan-smoked wings to the homemade French fries, sauces, and salad dressings, even down to the homemade pickles. Marty and I took a seat right next to the big window and were surprised to find that we could order a nice glass of Rose’. Kids eat free Tuesday thru Thursday from 4-8 pm. Nice! I will be back for that one, for sure.

I ordered the shrimp gyro and loved it. It was not too spicy at all, and it was the perfect size for me. It included blackened shrimp, but you can order it with chicken if you prefer. It is topped with lettuce, roasted red pepper, pickled red onion, dukes mayo, feta, and cucumber-dill sauce. I had a side salad as well to get some more veggies. Marty ordered the Southwest Protein Power Bowl with quinoa, pickled Radish, pepitas, tomato, black Beans, corn, and avocado with cilantro Lime Vinaigrette. We sat there for a few hours just talking about our blog and enjoying the comfortable and casual atmosphere. If you have a pet, you can do the same outside in their pet-friendly courtyard. We think that is what the owner intended.

The Ox Kitchen is located at 85 North Bancroft Street, Fairhope, Alabama. For more Keeping It Local, please follow us here on our blog.
