Fairhope,  Food,  Keeping it Local,  Where to Eat

Mr. Spud’s-Fairhope, Alabama

We were keeping it local again, this time in Fairhope, Alabama, off Hwy 181 at Mr. Spud’s. The restaurant is owned by Fred Nolte. His family has been a part of the farming, seafood, and beverage industry in Baldwin County since 1922. This restaurant features home-style cooking at its best, with a fresh menu that changes daily. There is always something new to discover here. One thing I loved about this restaurant was eating the fresh local seafood from Bon Secour’s fisheries and that the food here is made with love. Try the warm biscuits drizzled with honey. They really do give Krispy Cream a run for their money. These are only available at lunchtime. Rolls are served in the evening.

We arrived for lunch. I ordered the fresh-off-the-boat combo platter. I chose shrimp and stuffed crab. Fried fish and oysters are the other two options, and you can get the shrimp grilled. This platter comes with two sides. I made one side item for my dessert in order to save a little. My tablemate ordered one of the daily specials. Pork tenderloin with dressing and gravy. This came with three side items. We enjoyed the home-cooked meals and the choice of vegetables, and we are interested in returning for Dinner.

We also found the food to be an amazing value for the price. Mr. Spud’s is located at 18951 Highway 181 in Fairhope, Alabama, 36532. They are open Monday through Saturday, 11 am-2 pm Lunch, 4 pm-8 pm Dinner, and closed 2 pm-4 pm daily.
