Local and Company

If you happen to call Baldwin County, Alabama home, you are, in my opinion, one of the lucky ones. Located in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Alabama, on the Gulf coast and named in honor of Senator Abraham Baldwin, though he never lived in what is now Alabama. Baldwin was Alabama’s fastest-growing county from 2010 to 2020, with 4 of the top 10 fastest-growing cities in the state in recent years. Alabama is the perfect place to call home because of its incredible history, beautiful scenery, and friendly people. Every year, more and more people are choosing to move to Alabama. Here in Alabama, southern hospitality is at its finest, the cost of living is low, and we have a very laid-back way of life. Of course, the most laid-back place to be is at the beach. Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are one of my favorite places to visit. Friendly souls and excellent food can be found easily. We took a drive down to the beach the other day to spend the day with Mr. Bob Shallow from Remax Paradise. We wanted to learn about the local real estate market and find out where the best place to go for lunch might be. Bob Shallow was our go-to man. He has been living and working on the Gulf Coast for more than 40 years and has been the highest-ranked Re/Max agent in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi since 2008. Who better to spend a few hours picking their brain and learning about condo investments than Bob Shallow? We learned a lot about real estate that day and about the best places to go for lunch as well. He would know, of course, so he gave us his top five list of places to visit. We went for it and landed at Local and Company in Foley.

Local and Company is a unique restaurant to the community. It is located in an 86-year-old Armory in Foley, Alabama, previously occupied as the Old Antique Mall. The restaurant offers upscale American Cuisine at lunch and dinner. The design and d├ęcor are Industrial chic, embracing the existing steel and concrete elements with reclaimed wood, cozy banquette seating, and comfortable cushions. According to their website, the beautiful bar in the lounge area was designed and built by a local artist, Nick Bottjer, who works with Marksman Precision in Foley, Alabama. We decided to splurge and try the Cheese and Charcuterie Board. An excellent choice of artisanal cheeses and charcuterie with Fruit Jam, Nuts, Olives, Pickled Vegetables, and Mustard. A bottle of wine goes nicely. It was lunchtime, so we went for a very nice Rose’. Marty ordered the very impressive Red Quinoa Power Bowl with quinoa, chopped broccoli, cucumber, carrot, crushed peanuts, cilantro, radish, edamame, avocado, with the lime soy vinaigrette. I went for the Fried Shrimp and Okra.

We found the food quite tasty and the wait staff very attentive and excellent! We had a nice lunch discussing our real estate interests and enjoying the pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. We must mention the gift shop area is quite beautiful and the restrooms even more surprising! A must-see while visiting!

So, if you happen to be passing through the small town of Foley, Alabama, we highly recommend Local and Company and drop in on Bob Shallow at Remax Paradise in Orange Beach to say hi as well!
