Humming Star Alpacas -Silver Hill, Alabama

This past Saturday, Marty and I decided to take a little road trip and head over to Silver Hill, Alabama. We were on a mission to visit some beautiful furry animals at Humming Star Alpacas. This small farm was started by Cheryl Bowan and her husband in 2010. And it is one of the top farms in Alabama, with a herd of beautiful Huacaya alpacas that come from excellent bloodlines. Here Cheryl has discovered her passion. Each alpaca receives individualized attention and care to ensure that they are producing easy-to-handle, healthy animals with excellent and stunning fleece. And while you are there, don’t miss Walter, a 23-year-old African tortoise.

In the shop, there is clothing and apparel for sale, such as footwear, socks, and cozy hats made from the alpaca’s fleece. They also sell the cutest and fluffiest take-home alpacas for your kids, along with other gifts. While you are inside, look for Brenda with Brenda’s Pottery Shed. She may be there with her beautiful pottery.

If you are lucky, you may find The Goodie Box sitting outside on your way in or out of the shop. A Cottage Law baker with a dessert concession trailer! My daughter enjoyed the cake pops and chocolate-covered strawberries, which she was reluctant to hand over for a photo. Next time!

Another thing we really love about this place is that it is an agriculturally based operation or activity that brings visitors to a farm and supports the concept of Agritourism. A form of commercial enterprise that links agricultural production and/or processing with tourism to attract visitors to a farm. It gave us all a chance for a wonderful outdoor adventure. Humming Star Alpacas is located at 19700 Blueberry Ln, Silverhill, AL 36576. Visit them here on their Facebook page for hours of operation, or give them a call at (251) 214-8224.
