Highway 1- Bodega Bay to Carmel

One of my favorite road trips is down highway one. Most of Highway 1 is fantastic, but we will start at a quaint little coastal town called Bodega Bay on this trip. Anyone that has watched the movie “The Birds” by Alfred Hitchcock will recognize this restaurant. It is now called The Tides. Bodega Bay has an almost crescent-shaped peninsula that you can drive out to the tip of the Bogeda Head Park.

What a beautiful view. Unlike in the movie, if you want to visit the schoolhouse and the church, you have to drive to Bodega, an 8-minute drive inland.

The drive down Highway 1 takes you through another dreamy little town that we never miss when we are in the area called Sausalito, CA. We love to eat at Salito’s Crab House and Prime Rib Restaurant. It has a gorgeous marina view with San Franciso in the background.

My favorite dish to order is the Hot Dungeness Crabs in secrete garlic sauce. After we love to walk around the town, it has lots of shops, boutiques and art galleries.

Highway 1 then takes across the Golden Gate Bridge. Don’t forget to stop at the Golden Gate Postcard Viewpoint for the best views of the bridge. It will then take you through San Fransisco.

Continuing south, we stopped at numerous sites along the way to take pictures.

We stayed the night at a little seaside town called Rockaway Beach, CA. We had a beautiful sunset dinner at Moonrakers Restaurant, and the following day we breakfasted at Nick’s Seafood before continuing on our trip.

We stopped for lunch at the C Restaurant + bar on the Monterey peninsula. Soon, after lunch, we arrive at our destination. Carmel-by-the-Sea.
