Bellingrath Gardens and Home-Theodore, Alabama

A few weeks ago, we traveled to Theodore, Alabama, to visit one of the most spectacular gardens in the South—the 65-acre garden and grand estate home of Walter and Bessie Bellingrath. There is always something blooming at Bellingrath Gardens! In winter, enjoy more than 400 varieties of camellias, Alabama’s State Flower, and what Walter Bellingrath referred to as the “aristocrat of Bellingrath Gardens.” In spring, you can find gorgeous azaleas everywhere. Summer is all about roses, hydrangeas, and beautiful tropical plants.

And in the Fall, you don’t want to miss the spectacular outdoor cascading chrysanthemums gracing the Gardens in November! And no holiday season is complete without experiencing the magical wonderland of lights at Bellingrath’s award-winning event, Magic Christmas in Lights. There are other ways to explore the gardens as well. Feel free to immerse yourself in captivating special topic programs. Here, knowledgeable Bellingrath staff present fascinating insights. Families can also enjoy a range of children’s activities throughout the year, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Kids Gulf Discovery Day, and the Fall Festival. For adults seeking a unique adventure, there is a new annual event called Bellingrath’s Beers & Blooms.

At Bellingrath, all seasons are simply magical and beautiful. And yes, it is wheelchair accessible in most places, so bring those parents or grandparents out. My dad had a great time getting outdoors and into nature again. Here is a snapshot of our day. Bellingrath Gardens is located at 12401 Bellingrath Gardens Road in Theodore, AL. 36582.
